Device Setup

As a premium device, Meta Quest 3 set higher expectations for polish and clarity. Onboarding had to match that quality—every animation, interaction, and visual cue needed to feel precise, smooth, and effortless to reflect the device’s premium nature.

The Task

The onboarding focused on teaching physical setup through spatial design. We used animated 3D objects to show users how to adjust headset fit and used controller-driven interactions to move through each step.

The goal was clarity through motion, scale, and placement, so users could understand what to do without reading instructions or breaking immersion.

User Journey

Why 3D?

3D was key because it let users see actions at true scale, making headset adjustments and controller interactions immediately understandable

Pre-OTA is baked on the device in factory. Primary steps were in the PRE-OTA.

Post-OTA allowed us more time and features closer to release of the device.

The Problem

  • Difficulty understanding step-by-step setup without real-time visual guidance

  • Too many steps to first VR experience

  • Early friction hurt confidence and enjoyment

Premium feel. Iridescent look.
